Hi Class!
My name is Mrs. Grund, but you can call me "Mrs. G". I live in Cumberland with my husband Ryan, my two boys Patrick and James, a funny little dog named Brady and our crazy cat Moe.
Before we moved to Cumberland, we lived in Portland for about 10 years. As a child, I grew up in Damariscotta, a small coastal town an hour north of Portland. After high school I went to college at the University of Southern Maine. There I discovered my love for adventure, nature, and science while earning a degree Biology. After graduation I began working for Mad Science of Maine as a "Mad Scientist". I worked after school with elementary aged students conducting wild and crazy science experiments! It didn't take long for me to realize how much I loved working with children and I decided to go back to school on the path to becoming a full-time teacher. I completed a rigorous teacher certification program, ETEP, earning my teaching certification in 9 months and was hired as a 3rd grade teacher at Raymond Elementary School. After working in Raymond for a year, I moved my classroom to WPS where I've spent the last 6 years. This will be my 7th year teaching 3rd grade and I have loved every second of it!
Of course my journey in education doesn't end here! I completed Masters of Science in Education through USM between having my two sons and moving (PHEW I'm busy)! It is a huge personal achievement of mine to finish my degree and earn my Masters. I'm also excited to continue pursuing my love of science by furthering my education in STEM subjects and getting lots of tips and tricks at various staff training opportunities.
When I'm not teaching and learning I have lots of hobbies outside of school. My favorite activity is anything related to the outdoors; boating, camping, hiking, gardening, fishing, anything! I also love to garden, cook (and EAT), read, snowshoe, hike, LAUGH, and spend time with my family and friends.
So there's a little bit about me, how I became a teacher, and the things I love. I have lots of activities in mind for the year and can't wait to get to know each and every one of you. Let's make this year a memorable one!
Warmly,
Mrs. G
